911 - The True Story

from Mathias Bröckers

9/11 - The True Story

The ZDF this evening (24 August, 2010) showed "The 11 Sept - The true Story", a Docusoap with frolicking play scenes, real "terror experts" and in between scattered reality pieces. The fairytale from Osama and the 19 carpet knifes, staged with the help of the story of the FBI terror chief John O'Niell, who was pulled off the job of chasing Bin Laden and as security chief of the WTC, gave up his life after a week on the job. On Sept. 11, 2001, I had brought to light, in an “obituary” the destiny of John O'Neill, and had wished at the time that I could have director Oliver Stone available for the "WTC Conspiracy", with the kicked-out Bin Laden Hunter as protagonist.

The greatest barrier in the investigation against Islamic terrorists, so said O'Neill, "was the interests of the US oil concerns and the roll played by the Saudis." The wish was not fulfilled, for in the placid 9/11 film, that Stone made, nothing of significance was realized. For their film, the ZDF production staff of historian Guido Knopp produced their "true story" on O'Neill - and whoever is sufficiently prepared for a vomiting experience, may elect this masochistic experience. I could do that only with some interruptions. One is accustomed to the prostituting media, but so dull and stupid, that is painful enough. Far more exciting than this story tale is the thriller from Dirk Gerhardt, who takes on the destiny of O'Neill, as fiction, but surely nearer to the "true story", "Nanospuren".

For conspiracy theorists, are the terror attacks a sheer inexhaustible find. Some claim the CIA was behind it, others say it was the State of Israel along with influential Jew organizations in the USA.

The two part ZDF documentary "The 11 September - The true story" shows a realistic version, but at the same time, sobering. For the attacks, during which 3000 people died, could have been avoided, had the anti-terror intelligence entities not let ego, envy, or ignorance get in the way.

Mid-way in the first part stands the former anti-terror chief of the national police FBI, John O'Neill, who, without overstating, was a tragic figure in the events. Already in the 90's, he had recognized the danger that loomed from Osama bin Laden and his organization, Al-Kaida. But his egocentric style, private escapades, carelessness with secret documents, not to mention the sense of competition with the CIA, would lead to his demise.

At the beginning of the film, CIA anti-terror specialist, Michael Scheuer says "the only good thing about 9/11 was the death of John O'Neill", as emphasized by film makers Marc Brasse and Florian Huber. The two men, true, shared the same view at the core, and earlier, along with many others, considered bin Laden as a principal enemy. However, they never worked together - too great was the hate and sense of competition. They not only did not cooperate, they hid information from one another. "If the CIA and FBI had worked together, then 9/11 would not have happened", so had US author and terror expert Lawrence Wright analyzed in an interview.

The second focus of the document was on the assassins (so says the article), as obtained by the Spielgel TV along with ZDF from Swiss TV. "It began in Hamburg" so expresses the title of the first part. The development of the two terrorists, Mohammed Atta and Ziad Jarrah, was cited as follows: From their beginning as students of the technical university of Hamburg-Harburg to the radicalization in the Al-Quds-Mocchee in the middle of the Hansestadt until the terror training in Afghanistan and the final event in the USA.

Original videos document the the change in the men, shaky pictures from the other terror helpers out of the North Tower of the WTC gives an insight into the technical precision of the preparation from Al-Kaida. Scouts swung their cameras, among others, from the top floor over the New York Skyline, an outlook, which will never again be possible. "One day, you will see them falling", so spoke the even so succinct as well as shaken commentary of a terror helper from the video band.

And in this tower, John O'Neill found his death. Shortly before, the top hunter of bin Laden, deeply frustrated from  a contentious atmosphere as well as being worn down from pressure above, had left the FBI to become the security chief of the WTC. He was only few days on the job, as both towers were hit by passenger airliners, fell and buried him with it. "Indirectly he placed himself in the cross hairs, on ground zero, resumed expert Wright, And so bin Laden was victorious over this first top hunter.
